A Winnipeg church says a former pastor has been arrested by California police and charged with allegedly attempting to arrange a gathering to have intercourse with a minor.
Arrest data of the Arroyo Grande Police Division say Nathan George Rieger, 53, was arrested on Aug. 10. He was charged with arranging to fulfill with a minor for a sexual act and assembly with a minor for a sexual act.
The Arroyo Grande Police Division first started investigating Rieger on Aug. 8.
“There’s an entire community of those who need to have intercourse with minors and we have now a detective bureau that’s designated to have conversations with these folks which might be searching for to have intercourse with minors,” stated Cmdr. Shawn Cosgrove with the Arroyo Grande Police Division.
Officers created an avatar of a 15-year-old lady, which they used to speak with Rieger, Cosgrove stated.
Rieger has labored as a pastor for the Winnipeg Centre Winery Church on Important Road. The church launched a press release Tuesday saying Rieger, who had labored there for 19 years, had resigned his place.
The church, which usually ministers to susceptible folks within the core space, “was not ready for this information which was given to the congregation final Sunday morning,” the assertion says.
“The church is transcending the challenges of this improvement and is optimistic that the impression we have now on the goodness of our neighborhood will proceed. Our dedication to the social and non secular well-being of our parish and surrounding neighborhood will proceed to thrive.”
The church assertion stated Rieger has posted bail. He has a court docket date set for Aug. 23.
